In 2016, a group of park users, neighbours and friends formed Friends of Carlington Hill over shared concerns about Carlington Park, and the environmentally protected Carlington and Clyde Woods.
Since then, we have organized many seasonal and regular clean ups, guided tree and plant walks with local experts, and helped to remove and manage invasive plant species. FCH members also document any damages they see, such as graffiti, large waste items or hazardous waste, suspicious activity, or prohibited activities in certain areas, such as making new or widening existing trails, damaging vegetation and soils, disturbing wildlife, and erecting physical or natural barriers.
Using Carlington Park as our living example, our goal is to share information about the environmental, social, and economic benefits of urban forests and city parks, and promote actions and behaviour that will preserve the Park for future generations.
